Soul Stones are used for evolving Heroes, Titans, and Pets to any of the six different levels of power.

Hero Soul Stones are used to evolve Heroes. They can be obtained from the Campaign, Merchant, and the Heroic Chest and special events and quests and sometimes gifts. After evolving an Hero to absolute star, the excess Soul Stones can be traded in for Soul Coins in the Soul Shop.

Titan Soul Stones are used to evolve Titans. They can be obtained in the Dungeon, Circle of Summoning or through Special Events. After evolving an Titan to absolute star, the excess Soul Stones can be traded in for Titan Soul Coins in the Titan Soul Shop.
Evolving a Titan costs a certain amount of Gold and grants Sparks of Power that are needed to upgrade a Hero's Gift of the Elements. Both the amounts of Gold and Sparks increase gradually with each Star Rank.
Summoning Titans (with Soul Stones)[]
All titans are summoned at 1 star (for 30 Soul Stones) except for the three Super Titans who are summoned at 3 stars (for 280 Soul Stones).
Considering that Super Titan Soul Stones are rarer to come by; only coming from Chests of Super Titan Events, and duplicate unlock of that titan: it should be far more likely to summon a Super Titan from unlock (otherwise 250 soul stones saving 30)

Pet Soul Stones are used to evolve Pets to a new star ranking. But Pet Soul Stones are probably the rarest ones in the game and can only be obtained through Pet Summoning or opening enough Pets Soul Stone Chest. Once you get an absolute star Pet you can trade-in additional Pet Soul Stones for Pet Soul Coins in the Pet Soul Stone Shop.
